Solo Parents' Welfare Act (RA 8972)

Republic Act No. 8972, also known as the Solo Parents' Welfare Act of 2000, provides a comprehensive program of services for solo parents and their children.

Who Qualifies as a Solo Parent?
  • Any individual who falls under any of the following:
  • A woman who gives birth as a result of rape or similar acts
  • Parent left solo to care for children due to spouse's death, detention, or abandonment
  • Parent left solo due to legal/physical separation or annulment
  • Unmarried mother/father who has preferred to keep and rear the child
  • Any family member who assumes the responsibility of head of family

Requirements for Solo Parent ID
  1. Barangay Certification as Solo Parent
  2. Birth Certificate of child/children (NSO/PSA copy)
  3. Any valid government ID (with photo)
  4. Certificate of employment or certificate of no employment
  5. Supporting documents (death certificate, court order, etc.)
  6. 2x2 ID photos (2 copies)
  7. Duly accomplished application form (available at MSWDO)
